About the Mokena Mayors Charitable Foundation

The Mokena Mayors Charitable Foundation was established in 1992 by then Mayor Ron Grotovsky and Trustee Cary Chase. Their vision was to create an organization that would provide scholarships to local students majoring in municipal service related courses. In addition, the foundation would raise funds to support local charities. For the first 12 years, the primary event has been the Mayor's Golf Outing, held on the first Tuesday of August raising as much as $12,000.00 per year.

In 2005, Mayor Joe Werner expanded the foundations efforts to include the adoption of Moss Point, MS in August of that year just after the devastating onslaught of Hurrican Katrina. A concert, donation drive and other community events resulted in the delivery of over $80,000 worth of goods and funds.

In 2007, Mayor Werner added two new events to the foundations' calendar - The Mayors Charity Chili Party - proceeds of which benefit the Wounded Warriors Project and the Mokena Festival Art and Car Shows - which benefit The Mokena Cancer Support Center and local charities.

This year, Mayor Werner added 'Cruise Nights' to the list of yearly events with the help of local business including Stoney Point Grill, Denny's, Beggar's Pizza, Dairy Queen and Rogers Towing.
